Tõnis Saadoja and Angela Maasalu have joined the list of represented artists at Tütar gallery

Tütar gallery is excited to welcome Tõnis Saadoja and Angela Maasalu to the list of represented artists.

Tõnis Saadoja (1980) is a painter whose work explores various facets of realism and seeks connections between historical and contemporary painting. His main themes revolve around the relationships between memory, place, and meaning. His works are characterized by a conceptual structure and a pursuit of a technically distinctive form tailored to the imagery. Saadoja’s practice primarily consists of cohesive series, where a chosen motif is varied across a sequence of paintings. Often using photography as a starting point, he engages with the apparent neutrality of photographic representation and its simultaneous ability to reflect reality.
Tõnis Saadoja studied painting at the Estonian Academy of Arts (BA, 2004) and liberal arts at East-London University (MA, 2006). He has been awarded with the Vaal gallery young artist prize (2006, 2008, 2012), Köler Prize People’s Choice Award (2011) and Kristjan Raud award (2013). In 2025, Tõnis Saadoja was awarded the Order of Merit of the White Star, Fifth Class.

Angela Maasalu (1990) is an Estonian painter based in London. Maasalu focuses her work on personal and intimate themes, exploring the contradictions of human experience – happiness and misfortune, the drama and comedy of life. She weaves autobiographical fragments with symbolic and poetic imagery, transforming personal experience into something universal. Maasalu’s works are characterized by rich metaphors, a fairy-tale quality, and hidden narratives.
Angela Maasalu studied painting and art history at University of Tartu (BA 2012), and painting at Estonian Academy of Arts (MA 2015), as well as at UAL Central Saint Martins in UK (2013–2014). In 2017 and 2019 Maasalu was nominated for the AkzoNobel Art Prize.
