The painting "Sculptor Modelling a Portrait of Me" was made especially for the exhibition "Artists Painting Artists", which was part of the Estonian Artists Associations Spring Exhibition in 2020.
Foresightedly I played with my painting for the fact, that despite the invitation to portray other authors, many of the artist will send self-portraits to the exhibition. And that's how it went.
To ironize the authors self-centered approach, I placed the modelling of myself at the center of my painting. Behind the portrait was a working sculptor, whose identity was only indicated by a photo of his sculpture hanging on the wall.
Katrin Piile’s artistic repertoire transcends the boundaries of traditional painting to encompass objects and installations. Her artworks are a rare combination of ingenious use of forms, reminiscent of sculpture, and documentation and seriality, typical of photography and video.
